A rare and much sought-after product: Cod roe is one of Portugal's most refined dishes. They can be eaten naturally on a good slice of toast or incorporated into dishes with a drizzle of olive oil.
Once quite common, Portuguese cod roe has become a very rare and sought-after product. The manufacturing process is labour intensive and meticulous. Only canneries that still work in an artisanal way, such as La Gondola, are able to produce them.
